B2B Marketing Conference

5 Takeaways from #BMA16

I had the pleasure of attending my 4th BMA National Conference this week at the Hilton Chicago. Every year the conference seems to grow and change, this year with the ANA partnership front and center. Regardless, I can always count on the BMA Conference for great networking, quality content and a wealth of insights and ideas to bring back to my job and my clients. Some of the most common themes from this year’s conference included how marketing can and should drive business results, ways to build compelling brands through storytelling, and making marketing more important within organizations.   There were plenty of great B2B insights to choose from, but I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5 takeaways over the 3-day event.   It’s not B2B or B2C its B2H= Business to Human. While this isn’t a new idea, it bears repeating. Linda Boff, Chief Marketing Office at GE, reminded us that business...

Seen and Heard at Digital Megaphone’s 6th Annual Social Media Masters Summit

#ICYMI #smms14 was a trending topic yesterday on Twitter. Not surprising when 150 social media masters conglomerate in one room, but it certainly speaks to the power of sharing engaging content.       I was able to attend the 6th Annual Social Media Masters Summit hosted by Digital Megaphone in Chicago on May 15. The event hosted some of the best and brightest talent in the social world, with CMOs and social directors from brands like @Clorox, @BuzzFeed, @Threadless, @United, @ConAgraFoods, @Arbys, and @VanityFair, to name a few.   If you want a marketing career that keeps you on your toes, social media is the route to go. The always-changing, never-static socialsphere is ripe with learning opportunities and challenges. It can be hard to keep up at times, but nothing beats the feeling that comes from seeing your social media campaign take flight.   Speaking of learning opportunities, here are my key takeaways from the summit.   1. “Content...

Integrate Your Content Marketing with SEO / SEM

This great article states that "nearly half (45%) of all companies say content is ‘highly integrated’ with their SEO efforts, compared to just 24% for paid search marketing and 16% for mobile marketing. Organizations are more likely to integrate content marketing with their SEO strategy than they are with any other digital marketing discipline."   The phrase integrated marketing is one of those overused terms, as is content marketing. However, this study shows that more and more, integration of owned media and paid media is crucial. At Tell Your Story, we integrate earned PR media, too.   We are not sure why the SEM integration percentage isn't the same as SEO. Perhaps budget, but we have found that content, SEO, SEM and earned PR go hand-in-hand when thinking about and executing marketing plans to tell your clients' great stories.   Read the source article at Econsultancy...

“Click Farms” Become Global Business

For businesses just getting started on social media, looking to boost their profile, or heighten engagement levels, it can be tempting to purchase fake clicks, which can be purchased for as little as a half cent. While "click farms" have become lucrative in the social media industry, there is no upside for businesses who engage in this practice.   According to Twitter's Jim Prosser, "In the end, their accounts are suspended, they're out the money and they lose the followers."   Buying fraudulent clicks and follower accounts is a surefire way for businesses to lose all credibility in the social media world. Read on to learn how companies are cracking down on this trend.   "Celebrities, businesses and even the U.S. State Department have bought bogus Facebook likes, Twitter followers or YouTube viewers from offshore 'click farms,' where workers tap, tap, tap the thumbs up button, view videos or retweet comments to inflate social media numbers."   Read the...

What does #Twitter’s IPO mean for marketers?

[caption id="attachment_1684" align="aligncenter" width="288"] Source: Link[/caption] Since Twitter announced that it filed for IPO in early October, the interwebs have been buzzing with excitement and curiosity.  What will the final share price be? Can Twitter generate revenues and profits from its business? Hello, anyone remember Facebook’s IPO? And most importantly, what does this mean for “my” industry?   With over 200 million users Twitter is hardly an underground experience, but people are speculating whether this IPO will finally push Twitter mainstream.  With “TWTR” flashing across the ticker, we think that those not currently engaging with this platform might be intrigued enough to sign up. Especially since the share price was announced at $26 and is now trading at $45 per share (as of 10:30 a.m. CST, 11/7/2013.) A whole new generation of consumers is paying attention to Twitter now and no doubt brands and marketers are strategizing on how best to connect and...

What annual conference connects over 15,000 human resource professionals to 800 exhibitors under one roof? None other than the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) expo!
