Give Back the Love

Give Back the Love

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

– Winston S. Churchill

The team at Tell Your Story prides itself on making a living by doing what we love: working with some of B2B’s brightest innovators and marketers, creating award-winning marketing and social media campaigns, and getting impactful results for our clients.

But outside of the 9 to 5, our team members are more than just marketers: we’re volunteers, fundraisers, and community supporters. Giving back is an important part of our culture and we do so in many ways. Two highlights of the past year are our involvement with non-profits Barbells for Boobs and Tutoring Chicago.

Tell Your Story, through CrossFit Wilmette, participated in a fundraiser for Barbells for Boobs, a non-profit organization dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer, with an emphasis on women under 40 and men. Guided by the credo “Everyone Has a Right to Know,” Barbells for Boobs provides resources to those who don’t have access to necessary screenings and diagnostic procedures.

Affiliated with the CrossFit “boxes” across the country, Barbells for Boobs fundraisers are based on individuals and teams raising funds and culminates in a competitive showdown of muscle. CrossFit Wilmette’s event pitted fundraisers against each other for one of the most popular CrossFit WOD (workouts of the day) doing 30 clean and jerk repetitions.

George completed the workout at (only) 105 lbs. but raised over $1,000 for the cause. Tell Your Story’s Erin Neal completed the workout at 75 lbs.

Tutoring Chicago Volunteerism

Our team is fortunate to have had lifelong access to great education and the support systems that come with it. This unfortunately isn’t the case for many youth in some of Chicago’s inner city schools. Local non-profit Tutoring Chicago provides economically disadvantaged children in the city with free one-to-one tutoring by adult volunteers through locations in Lincoln Park and Logan Square.

Nicole began tutoring at the Lincoln Park location in September 2014 where she works with a third grader on developing reading, writing, math and life skills. Third grade math is much more difficult than she remembers.

In addition to being a veteran tutor at the Logan Square location, Erin serves on the Tutor Advisory Board, where she helps organize tutor events and acts as a resource for all tutors.

In light of Erin and Nicole’s involvement with the organization, Tell Your Story made a monetary donation on behalf of our clients, partners and vendors in lieu of gifts during the 2014 holiday season.
