what we think

We don’t think of ourselves as know-it-alls, but we do like sharing our thoughts, experiences and POV from time-to-time. We are in continual learning mode and here is what we think, when we think it.

What does #Twitter’s IPO mean for marketers?

[caption id="attachment_1684" align="aligncenter" width="288"] Source: Link[/caption] Since Twitter announced that it filed for IPO in early October, the interwebs have been buzzing with excitement and curiosity.  What will the final share price be? Can Twitter generate revenues and profits from its business? Hello, anyone remember Facebook’s IPO? And most importantly, what does this mean for “my” industry?   With over 200 million users Twitter is hardly an underground experience, but people are speculating whether this IPO will finally push Twitter mainstream.  With “TWTR” flashing across the ticker, we think that those not currently engaging with this platform might be intrigued enough to sign up. Especially since the share price was announced at $26 and is now trading at $45 per share (as of 10:30 a.m. CST, 11/7/2013.) A whole new generation of consumers is paying attention to Twitter now and no doubt brands and marketers are strategizing on how best to connect and...

How I Applied Client Profiling Skills to Puppy Training

“Client Profiling” is my own term, as far as I know, and at a previous agency, we spent a number of internal education sessions refining our skills in this area. What it comes down to is this: understanding how your client processes information in order to make decisions.   Does she need a lot of information to ponder all the options, or is she more of a top-line info-only person in order to make that decision and keep moving. Is he visual or conceptual? Are you better giving one recommendation or laying out several options?  Does she need to talk it through to determine a direction? These are just some of the personality traits to consider when you start working with a new client. It certainly takes some time and good old-fashioned listening, but to develop a credible relationship and work at growing the business, it is crucial.   If you think about it...

Blackhawks Rally to Bring Stanley Cup Home

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="630"] Cover for the official Chicago Blackhawks 2013 Stanley Cup champs book. via NHL.[/caption]   We aren’t hockey fanatics, but the story of Lord Stanley, his Cup and how it made its way to Chicago last night is a great tale to tell. And it is just the beginning.   Chicagoans and Hawks fans alike (is there a difference?) flooded the city streets Monday night after the Blackhawks defeated the Bruins 3-2 in a last minute scoring frenzy. Even the fairest of fans have to admit the win was epic, with two goals scored within 17 seconds of each other. The game secured the franchise’s fifth title and second in the last four years.   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="611"] Stanley Cup Champions! SVM Debuts New Brand Identity at #SHRM13

What annual conference connects over 15,000 human resource professionals to 800 exhibitors under one roof? None other than the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) expo! Tell Your Story had the opportunity to witness the excitement firsthand this week at the SHRM 2013 Annual Conference & Expo at McCormick Place. This year’s turnout was reportedly the largest in the show’s history—even the show’s Twitter hashtag, #SHRM13, was a trending topic on the social media site.   With a guest speaker lineup including Hillary Rodham Clinton, Blake Mycoskie, and Mark Kelly and Gabby Giffords, hundreds of educational sessions, and a performance by Kelly Clarkson, there was undoubtedly enough to be excited about. However, the Tell Your Story team was most enthusiastic about the chance to work hand-in-hand with client SVM, a global leader in incentive and motivation solutions, in their booth.         Over the past few months, Tell Your Story developed and launched an integrated...

4 easy ways to de-stress at work

[caption id="attachment_1514" align="alignleft" width="300"] Photo cred: Stockvault.net[/caption] This Friday is the first day of summer. Time for vacations. Time for relaxation. Time to hit the beach and leave the day-to-day stresses behind. The advent of summertime brings to mind our need for a break.  But that’s not always possible in the midst of deadlines and projects and, well, life. Or, is it? The truth is, there are many ways to de-stress at work that only take a few minutes.  Here are a few great examples:   Be proactive.  “Get a head start” and “wake up earlier” are recommended to reduce your overall stress. Even starting your day just 15 minutes earlier gives you extra time to prepare for your day.   Grab a book.  A 2009 study by the University of Sussex found that as little as six minutes of silent reading reduced stress levels by up to 68%.  The same study found that listening to...

NeoCon: The Ultimate Paradise for Architects & Designers

If you’re an architect or designer, you’ve undoubtedly heard about and have likely attended NeoCon, the largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors in North America. A show chock-full of inspiration and innovation, this is where creativity came to life for over 40,000 A&D professionals and over 700 exhibitors last week at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart.   As a NeoCon newbie, I was amazed to see how celebrated and highly regarded the show is throughout the A&D community—truly a creative’s paradise. Whether you’re drifting through Steelcase’s colossal permanent showroom on the 3rd floor, exploring the exhibitor booths on 7 and 8, or trying to navigate the elevators and food court during the lunch rush, you can’t escape the sense of excitement and urgency from tens of thousands of people trying to soak it all in.   Tell Your Story client, USG Corporation, was exhibiting their new Pixels Wall Mounted Panels so most of my...
